1. Who can record their story?a. Our Patriot Stories provides Veterans and their spouses the opportunity to share their experience. If you served in the military at any time or if you supported our military as a military spouse, we invite you to record your story and share it with your family and friends.

2. How do I record my story?a. You will be led through a simple process on our online platform that will help you share your story. You will be given questions to respond to and our program will help you every step of the way. All you need is an internet connection and a computer, phone, or tablet that can record video and audio.

3. How long does it take to record my story?a. You will have up to 15 minutes to answer each question and you can move on if you use less time. You can start and end your response at any time so you are in control of the length of the recording. Most people will take about an hour to record their story.

4. What should I talk about?a. Veterans have the option to choose from a few lists of questions and spouses have a single list. These questions are generic and allow you to respond with stories that you’ve experienced. We’ve had these questions prepared and reviewed by mental health professionals that work directly with military Veterans and their families. b. Whether you served for two years in the National Guard or 35 years on active duty we know that you’ll be able to answer these questions with your unique stories.

5. Where do I do my recording at?a. You can record from anywhere that has an internet connection. We recommend you find a quiet comfortable place with a nice background to do your recording.

6. Can I restart my response to a question on the recording?a. Yes! You will have several attempts to answer each question. That way if you need a break or are interrupted for some reason during your recording you can restart whenever you’re ready. No problem at all!

7. What if I need a break during my recording?a. You can take a break between questions and our program will save your progress. If you lose power or connectivity, you can come back and continue recording whenever you’re ready.

8. Why should I record my story?a. You have a unique story as a Veteran or as a military spouse. Sharing your story will preserve your legacy and be a valuable keepsake for your family to cherish. Recording your story will build stronger connections between you and your loved ones and help develop a sense of purpose. When you share your history, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and your story will inspire others. There are so many therapeutic benefits to recalling and sharing past experiences and we know doing so will fill you with pride and gratitude as you reflect on your service to our country.

9. What should I wear for the recording?a. You can wear anything you’re comfortable with. Like a virtual call on Zoom, your head and upper torso will likely be what’s on camera.

10. Can I include photos or items in my recording?a. Absolutely! The video will record your responses to questions and if you have photos that you want to share, we suggest you have a printed copy to hold up and talk about. Other items like awards, and military paraphernalia would greatly add to the value of your story and help bring it to life!

11. How do I watch my recording?a. Immediately after you finish sharing your story you will be sent an email with a link to each of your responses. Just click the link and listen to your story.

12. How do I share my recording?a. As soon as you finish your recording you will be sent an email with a link to your video. You can share that email or that link with your family and friends. There will also be instructions where you can request a downloadable file and one will be sent to you.

13. Can I download my recording?a. Absolutely! After you finish your recording, you will receive an email with a link to your videos and instructions for requesting a download.
